A hearty and comforting dish combining seasoned ground beef, tender potatoes, and melted cheese baked to perfection.

Ingredients

Meat and Dairy

  • 1 lb ground beef (browned)
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Vegetables and Seasonings

  • 4 large potatoes (thinly sliced)
  • 1 onion onion (diced)
  • 2 garlic cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper

Liquids

  • 1 cup cream or milk
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for sautéing)

Instructions 

  • Sauté onions and garlic in olive oil until soft. Add ground beef, season, and cook until browned. Let simmer.
  • Layer sliced potatoes in a buttered baking dish. Spread half the beef mixture over potatoes.
  • Add another layer of potatoes, then remaining beef, and top with final potato layer.
  • Pour cream over the casserole, cover with foil, and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 50 minutes.
  • Remove foil, sprinkle cheese, and bake 10-12 minutes until golden. Rest before serving.

Notes

Use fresh potatoes for best results and ensure the casserole rests before serving for optimal flavor.
