A classic, crunchy side dish perfect for picnics and barbecues, featuring shredded cabbage and carrots in a creamy dressing.

Ingredients

Vegetables

  • 1 medium green cabbage, finely shredded (about 8 cups)
  • 2 large carrots, peeled and grated

Dressing

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (full-fat recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery seed (optional, but recommended)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)

Instructions 

  • Combine shredded cabbage and grated carrots in a large bowl.
  • Whisk together mayonnaise, vinegar, mustard, sugar, celery seed (if using), salt, and pepper until smooth.
  • Pour dressing over vegetables and toss gently to coat.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.
  • Stir again before serving and enjoy!

Notes

For extra flavor, add a splash of lemon juice or a handful of chopped fresh herbs.
