Enjoy these flaky, flavorful scones infused with fresh orange zest and tart cranberries, perfect for breakfast or tea time.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 2 ½ cups cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cups granulated sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp Tbsp orange zest (about 2 oranges)
  • ½ cup cups cold unsalted butter (cubed)
  • ½ cup ml buttermilk
  • 1 Tbsp Tbsp orange juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 large large egg
  • 1 cup g fresh or frozen cranberries (do not thaw if frozen)
  • 1 cup g powdered sugar
  • 2-3 Tbsp Tbsp orange juice (for glaze)

Instructions 

  • Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and orange zest. Cut in cold butter until pea-sized.
  • Create a well, add buttermilk, orange juice, and egg. Gently combine, then fold in cranberries.
  • Knead dough briefly on a floured surface. Shape into an 8-10 inch disc, chill for 5-10 minutes.
  • Cut into 8 wedges, place on a lined baking sheet, freeze for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Brush with egg wash, sprinkle with sugar if desired, then bake for 20-26 minutes until golden. Cool before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of coarse sugar on top before baking.
