This rich and flavorful turkey gravy can be prepared in advance and reheated effortlessly, making your holiday meal stress-free and delicious.

Ingredients

Dairy and Herbs

  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter (1 stick, diced into tablespoon-sized cubes)
  • 1.5 teaspoons finely chopped fresh sage (or 0.5 teaspoon dried sage)
  • 0.75 teaspoon finely chopped fresh thyme (or 0.25 teaspoon dried thyme)
  • 0.5 teaspoon finely chopped fresh rosemary (or pinch dried rosemary)
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon turkey base (can substitute chicken base)
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups low-sodium turkey broth (can substitute chicken broth)
  • to taste kosher salt kosher salt (for seasoning)

Reheating Drippings

  • as needed roasted turkey or chicken drippings (see Recipe Notes)
  • 0.5 cup low-sodium turkey broth (can substitute chicken broth)

Instructions 

  • Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add herbs and pepper, cooking until fragrant (~30 seconds). Whisk in turkey base and flour, cooking 1-2 minutes until golden. Gradually whisk in broth, cooking 3-4 minutes until thickened. Let cool, then store in an airtight container in the fridge up to 5 days.
  • Reheat gravy over medium-low, whisking until warmed (~5-8 minutes). Prepare drippings by skimming fat from roasted pan, then stir into gravy. Whisk in additional broth if needed, season to taste, and keep warm until serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, stir in drippings during reheating and adjust seasoning as needed.
